Las week I was at Smashing the Patriarchy’s conference on feminism in academic theses at the University of Dundee, presenting my paper “Marianne Moore and Gift Exchange: A Feminist Re-Reading of Influence”. It was great to get feedback from a warm and supportive audience drawn from many disciplines. Scottish Women’s Aid provided an affecting keynote on the sociology behind their strategies to support women suffering domestic violence. We had a good discussion about feminism’s reputation problem, and the usefulness of women-only spaces for education and safe dialogue.
